Corpus Christi Comic Con

CORPUS CHRISTI - The American Bank Center was crowded on Friday and Packed on Saturday as Corpus Christi Comic Con once again opened its doors to residents of the Costal Bend. Fans from, well, many fandoms flocked to the event to meet actors and Voice actors from a variety of shows and snap pictures with them.

Among the celebrity attendees were Kel Mitchell who gained notoriety in his teenage years on the hit show All That along side a cast of teenagers that included Keenan Thompson of SNL Fame. The two young actors found success on their own spinoff series entitled Keenan and Kel which also aired on the Nickelodeon station.

Kel was a part of what is considered by many to be the golden age of the Nickelodeon channel. All that was a breakthrough at the time being the first children's variety sketch shows. Though the series continued for a number of years, it never had the same steam and momentum as the lineup in the first 2 seasons.

Another celebrity attendee was Ron Perlman of the Hellboy movies. Having played a variety of characters over the years such as the Beast in the 1987 show Beauty and the Beast as well as Reinhardt in Blade 2.

Having been in a variety of roles including parts in Sons of Anarchy, Halo 2(video Game), and the hit cartoon Adventure Time in which he voiced the Lich. It is safe to say that Perlman is no novice to the world of video games and Science Fiction.

A personal favorite for us was the appearance of Paul Schrier and Jason Narvy otherwise known as the iconic team of Bulk and Skull. A dynamic Duo in their own right the two were recurring characters in the hit show Power Rangers which aired for several seasons.

Though the cast went through a number of changes over the years, Bulk and Skull were a constant. Serving as the shows comic relief the two also proved on several occasions that though they had a rough exterior, they themselves could step in as the heroes when needed.

Seeing the two offscreen is like meeting Bulk and Skull themselves. Jason and Paul don't miss a beat when they get together and the comic relief just comes out of them so naturally it is hard to believe that Bulk and Skull are just characters, especially when Jason does his unforgettable laugh as Skull.

Aside from the guests, there was also a fairly impressive merch room which any con attendee will tell you is very important. Attendees had a wide variety of plushie's 3D printed characters, trading cards, action figures, and cosplay weapons to choose from.

In truth it would take more than just one day to take in everything the con had to offer. One booth that stood out to many of the attendees was Milky Tomato which served an array of cute animal and food themed items.

All in all, the Corpus Christi Comic Con delivered the fan service that Corpus Christi and the surrounding area desperately needs.
